what's the best way to ADVERTISE an exhibition?

Hi everyone! I'm currently working on a project that will be shown in 'The Settlement' in Maryport. What would be the best ways to advertise the exhibition?
The one's I've got at the moment are: newspapers, websites, and me telling everyone I meet!
I want to create some postcards, but does anybody know the best way to distribute them throughout the Tourist Information Centres.
Any advise would be much appreciated!!:)

Hi,
first up, get a good press release together and send it out to all the arts people at all the local papers. Then twist it about and send to ALL the listings people. You can find details of the national listings people in the Guide in the Guardian on Saturday. This has to go out at least 4 weeks in advance. get the press release out to all local radio too.
See who else has a mailout soon and get something in on their mailout.
get the show listed on this site as well as every other online listings.
All of this is free, but you will need to spend some time putting together a really strong take on the show to get people's attention.
Tourist information centres are good, but probably not as important as you think. In our experience the more visible the show is locally, the more people will come. You really can't over-do local promotion. At the end of the day, they're the ones most likely to come.
I'll galdly cast an eye over your press release if you want.
good luck!
