Biography
I work with textiles in a very broad base. Having inherited a love of wool and fabrics from my mother and grandmother, I learnt to knit and sew as a child. I now keep a flock of angora goats and rare breed sheep, from which I produce a range of wool and mohair knitting yarns and mohair socks. These are all hand-dyed individually in rainbow colours.
I also create pictures, bags, scarves and textile jewellery using a wide range of techniques including felt making and hand and machine embroidery. my work is inspired by the landscape and the history of the very rural environment in which I live.
I am a member of the Woolclip Womens' cooperative, based in Caldbeck, and blue tarn, the Cumbria womens art collective. I share a studio at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh.
As well as currently studying for a degree in Contemporary Applied Arts at the University of Cumbria, I teach adult ed evening classes and one-off workshops in a variety of textile techniques.
