Network Summer Camp ... a bit wet!
Network Summer Camp ... a bit wet!
Amazing! It hasn't rained for weeks, months, in a county that is famous for it. Perhaps it was a targeted attack for Summer Solstice! Perhaps it was just rehearsing for Glastonbury. Whatever the conspiracy, the Summer Camp proved to be, well, damp!
We did have a stupendous time non-the-less, and it didn't rain for Friday evening's celebrations of Kurt Schwitters and his fabulous legacy of the Merz Barn.... Poetry, performance, music, food, fire, drinks, and damn good company with about 40 fellow dadaists (and not to mention the biggest and funkiest cake Cylinders must have ever witnessed) made the evening a really excellent occasion - most certainly one for the history books...
Saturday's increasingly bad weather was rebuffed with our bizarrely similar brightly coloured umbrellas and better still, saved by a stream of inspiring talks around immigration, art and cultural traversing, mixed with the warmth of a roof and good sarnies!
We de-camped in the evening to find a pub full of soggy holiday makers (poor sods!) and a lovely hot meal as an alternative to soggy sausages, footy and live music, and quite a bit of Coniston ale too (to aid tent-sleeping of course!). We got back to the Merz Barn to find a lovely hot wood burning stove and plenty more discussion before clambering into rain-laden tents and not very many dry belongings...
All in all a wet but super weekend! (I've put a few pics on the gallery page for your viewing and weather remarks!)
A very big Thank You to Littoral Arts for hosting the Summer Camp.

Summer (????) Camp
It was pretty biblical for a while.......the rain I mean, not any divine form of intervention that may have happened during the weekend. Still, it was a good gathering with some great discussions and performances. I learnt that the umbrella/pub combo is essential for staying dry and sane. I also learnt that sleeping on a slope is not good for the back.
Shame that more people did not venture out for the Saturday, but then maybe we would have been tight for space in the pub.
A big thanks to Ian and Celia from Littoral for hosting the event so wonderfully and making the Network members feel very welcome.

I've had requests that we should do a re-run! what do you think?
Anyone want to host a camp? Do you know of a nice person with a big garden or secluded field?
Are there events that we can team up with?
