Network calendar project takes shape
The Cumbria Network is planning a wall calendar for 2009 featuring members’ work. Network members can submit images and vote online for their favourites.
Three local companies - Stoneleigh Communications, Hayloft Publishing and Hydrant Design - have developed a simple concept that encourages Network members to submit images and then to vote online for their favourite image. A cross-section of Cumbrian visual arts will be featured on the calendar, which will be designed and printed locally and then on sale across the county and beyond.
Kate Brundrett, Director of Cumbria Network, commissioned the calendar and she is keen to see it challenging some of the preconceived ideas about Cumbrian art and artists. “I see it as a great opportunity to feature a range of contemporary work that reflects the eclectic nature of the visual arts in Cumbria and the tremendous energy of Network members,” she said. “As well as showcasing work, the calendar is also an opportunity to raise the Network’s profile and promote our members further afield – we’d like to surprise anyone with only a very traditional view of Cumbrian arts.”
Artists can register as a Network member and submit an image online at www.thecumbrianetwork.co.uk.
“We want to encourage a broad range of artists to submit work as soon as possible – certainly well before the 5 September deadline – so that other members have a chance to vote and comment on their favourites,” said Kate.
