Network calendar for 2009 to feature a taste of contemporary Cumbrian art
Network calendar for 2009 to feature a taste of contemporary Cumbrian art
The Cumbria Network, an online community of over 800 creatives, is planning its first ever wall calendar featuring members’ work.
Three local companies - Stoneleigh Communications, Hayloft Publishing and Hydrant Design - have worked with Network Director, Kate Brundrett, to develop a simple concept for a 2009 Wall Calendar. The project has been developed to involve members in the creation of the calendar as much as possible, encouraging Network members to submit images and then enabling them to vote online for their favourites.
Kate Brundrett is keen to see the calendar challenging some of the preconceived ideas about Cumbrian art and artists: “I see it as a great opportunity to feature a range of contemporary work that reflects the eclectic nature of the visual arts in Cumbria and the tremendous energy of Network members,” she said.
A cross-section of Cumbrian visual arts will be featured on the calendar, which will be designed and printed locally and then on sale across the county and beyond.
“As well as showcasing work, the calendar is also an opportunity to raise the Network’s profile and to promote our members further afield,” explained Kate.
Artists can register as a Network member and submit an image online at www.thecumbrianetwork.co.uk. Full details of deadlines, guidelines and terms are also available online and the Gallery shows work submitted so far and gives people an opportunity to vote.
“We want to encourage a broad range of artists to submit work as soon as possible – certainly well before the 5 September deadline – so that other members have a chance to vote and comment on their favourites,” concluded Kate.
