Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope winners of the Northern Art Prize
Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope winners of the Northern Art Prize
The Northern Art Prize is a substantial new prize for contemporary visual artists in the North of England.
With its home in Leeds, the prize celebrates and rewards professional artists of any age, working in any medium, living in the North East, North West and Yorkshire regions. Nominations come from a range of arts professionals from across those regions.
This year's winners are Karen Gurthrie + Nina Pope who scooped the £16,500 prize money. They were chosen from a shortlist which included Eric Bainbridge, Tim Brennan and Dan Holdsworth who each received £1,500. An exhibition of all the artists’ work is still on display at Leeds Art Gallery until 10 February 2008 (click here to find out more).
The winners and shortlist were chosen by a national panel of judges which included Martin Creed (Artist), Ann Gallagher (Head of Collection, British Art, Tate), Tom Lubbock (Art Critic, The Independent), and Greville Worthington (Art Collector and Independent Curator) and chaired by Nigel Walsh (Curator at Leeds Art Gallery).
Our online poll also revealed that Guthrie + Pope were your favourites to win.
