how do I get to see people's profiles in order to add buddies? where are they?
PLUS - let's not worry about whether our questions show our ignorance of webby things - the site needs to be usable by everyone

Go to the members page from the top navigation. Every page except the homepage also lists which users are online.
You can add buddies by
You can add buddies by going to someone's profile page and clicking 'Add to your buddy list'
You can find people's profile pages by going to the member page and clicking on 'view all members'. you'll then see a list of all the members and can click on their profile.
