wah?
why ask?
jesus!
art is art is arty and then comes the BS.
why try and make it sound bigger than it is,
sniff a flower, have a walk and enjoy the perfect nature of things.
don't bog the little gray cells you have left with things that got answered ages ago by those that thought art could be placed into a uniformed social inclusion bill...
as I see it...
As an individual artist, am I really being asked to consider these when making work? I hope not. I am a visual artist in the main, and therefore my work is essentially visual. If you can't see it I'm sure your life will be equally rich regardless.
Access issues are normally the concern of my commissioners and it's probably their responsibility to ensure my work is seen by as many people as possible. I really don't expect to have a say about how low my photos are hung, or the quality of the light, or that people from disadvantaged backgrounds understand where I'm coming from. As an artist, I make art - not tick boxes.
Organisations, on the other hand, need to look long and hard about these issues, but that's probably for discussion elsewhere.
Art is essentially
Art is essentially Individual..Indivdually interesting, Individually challenging and Individually engaging! In fact Individuallity Makes the Artist!
I think thats is a lot easier said than done!... I mean there is/are such a wide range of disabilities.. and they don't all fit in the same box or combination of boxes.
I beleive the way forward is for people to see the person before the disability.
My pet hate/hates are.. Assumption, Patronization and Negativity..
Folk who assume that I can't do things and not able to realize/understand that I have brains to find another way of doing a job/task!
Folk patronize me by saying arn't you clever been able to do that and been disabled an all or ask if I think that been disabled has made me a better person???????? While almost patting me on the head!
Negativity... Well that's a mixture of the two above..
My disability was classed as a un-seen disability... Before I lost most of my hearing and had to use sticks and sometimes a wheelchair to get around, until then I very rarely experienced any of the above?!?!?
