Hoe Ho Ho @ Bank_Gallery, Carlisle
Featuring the artwork of ten Carlisle Arts Hub members from various backgrounds and affiliations, “Hoe, Ho, Ho” takes a light-hearted—albeit potentially controversial—approach to art-making and the holiday season, with Christmas-themed erotic art at Bank_Gallery_.
Double entendres abound in this exhibition, from Helen Tuck’s snowscape comprised of close-up photographs of a female nude and Katrin Ostlündh’s bags of chocolate coins hung at waist-height (use your imagination), to Rebecca Freeman’s more subtle snowflakes and silhouettes of subverted Christmas imagery hidden amongst the white gallery space. This show featured a variety of media, including Rich Webster’s photo montage, Adam Fine’s video, Jimmy McNeish’s sculpture, Hannah Stewart’s installation, and Jen Martin’s photography, among many others.
This exhibition was following on the footsteps of last year’s “Private View” at Eleventh Hour Studios, which exhibited artist’s nude self portraits. “Hoe, Ho, Ho” was put together by first-time curators Jen Martin, Joel Ava Mackinson, and Jennifer Brooks, who all exhibited works in the show.
The Carlisle Arts Hub wishes to thank Bank_Gallery_ for providing the exhibition space and for their support.
